Pebble Beach: Things To Do

Golf

Pebble Beach Golf Links: Opened in 1919, this scenic course designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant is named the #1 golf course in America by Golf Digest. It hosts the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, has hosted five U.S. Open Championships, and will be hosting a sixth U.S. Open Championship in 2019.

The Links at Spanish Bay: Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Tom Watson, and Sandy Tatum, this true links golf course is reminiscent of the original Scottish concept of golf established over 500 years ago. A regular shot or low running shot can be used to play, and a Scottish bagpiper closes the course every evening.

Spyglass Hill Golf Course: Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., this course is rated one of the toughest courses in the world with the PGA Tour consistently listing holes 6, 8, and 16 among the most difficult on the tour. The course is themed after Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 novel Treasure Island, and the holes are named after characters in the book such as “Billy Bones” and “Black Dog.”

Del Monte Golf Course: Opened in 1897, this course was designed by Charles Maud and is the oldest continuously operating course west of the Mississippi. It hosted the original California State Amateur and remains one of three courses where the TaylorMade Pebble Beach Invitational is played.

Peter Hay Golf Course: Opened in 1957 across the street from Pebble Beach Golf Links, it is the only public 9-hole par-3 golf course on the Monterey Peninsula. Perfect for teaching children about the sport, or for practicing a short game.

Poppy Hills Golf Course: Opened in 1986, this course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. was the first course to be owned and operated by a golf association (Northern California Golf Association) in the United States. It filled a need for amateur tournament golf, co-hosting the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am from 1991-2009, the Spalding Pebble Beach Invitational four times, and the 1991 NCAA’s Men’s Championships.

Events

Concours d’Elegance: Noted as “the world’s premier celebration of the automobile,” this auto show has been held annually in Pebble Beach since 1950. With a focus on classic cars, the event hosts a vehicle competition, a classic car tour, an automotive art exhibit, and an auction.

Pebble Beach Food and Wine Festival: An annual multi-day epicurean festival drawing celebrity chefs and winemakers to exhibit their culinary talents with meals, wine tastings, seminars, and cooking demonstrations.

Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament: Hosted every February on three of the area’s golf courses, this famous tournament attracts over 190,000 spectators and millions of television viewers.

Historical Attractions

The Lodge at Pebble Beach: Opened in 1919, this resort and grounds have attracted wealthy and celebrity clientele for nearly 100 years.

17-Mile-Drive: Famous for being one of the most picturesque drives in the world, this coastal road runs from Pacific Grove through Pebble Beach, showcasing well-known sites such as the Lone Cypress, Fanshell Overlook, Spanish Bay, and Point Joe.
